You need a free account to publish Second Layer posts and reviews, add friends, and use your account’s personal and group chats. Private guest messages are also available without registering: open the menu next to a person’s name, provided they allow contact. The Windows app gives you another way to use IconCU.

The browser connection

Your open tabs appear automatically in IconCU. Install the browser connection directly from the Chrome Web Store — for Chrome, Brave and Microsoft Edge.

Install from the Chrome Web Store ↗

Published in the store: CHR.0.26.27.1 · Chrome, Brave, Edge

The store version connects browser tabs to the Windows app. It does not yet include the newer web app connection. The browser handles approved store updates automatically; you confirm the initial installation yourself.

Edge may ask you once to allow extensions from other stores. Firefox needs its own Mozilla listing and is offered separately here as a test.

Latest test version and Firefox

Prepared test packages: CHR.0.26.38.4 / FOX.0.26.38.4 · not yet a published store update

For the web app and complete active window switching, you can deliberately choose the current test version. This still requires developer mode or a temporary Firefox installation.

Already installed?

A store installation stays linked to the same listing and receives approved updates automatically. The browser may ask you to confirm new permissions. Check IconCU in the extension manager and approve only the permissions you agree with.

An unpacked test copy does not automatically become a store installation. Keep your newer test version until the matching store update is published. Do not remove an existing copy prematurely; when you switch later, you may need to pair again and check your settings.

Already using IconCU?

In IconCU, open Update · install a prepared update immediately. Your login, settings and browser pairings are retained.

The latest test version includes page hints, the web app connection and the active tab following switch. The public store currently provides 0.27.1 for the Windows app. Wait until the new store update is available before moving a newer test copy to the store. IconCU does not remove any extension or reset any pairing automatically.

Good to know

How do I install the app and extension?

Install the Windows app. “Add website manually” lets you select a public address straight away. For automatic browser tabs, also set up the optional extension through “Browser management”.

What does Early Access mean?

You can already use IconCU and send us feedback. Features continue to develop. The Windows file does not yet have a verified publisher signature, so Windows may display a security warning. Chrome, Brave and Edge can install the published browser connection directly from the store. Newer test packages and Firefox use a separate test installation method.

Can’t find your download?

Open your browser’s download list with Ctrl + J. It shows progress or the reason for an interruption. Use this page at its encrypted address, https://www.dabrain.biz.

Where can I get help?

The help guide contains setup steps and answers to common questions. You can also reach us through Contact.

Store or test installation?

For Chrome, Brave and Edge, installing from the store is the easy route: no extraction and no developer mode. The current store version 0.27.1 supports the Windows app. The newer web app connection will follow with the next approved store update.

For a deliberately chosen test installation, the guide lists folders, steps and Firefox limitations. Keep an existing newer test copy until the store update is approved.

YOUR VERSION

The right connection.

The Windows app is now labelled WIN.0.26.62.0: WIN stands for Windows, 0 for Early Access and 26 for the year. The following numbers identify the development release and smaller fixes.

The browser connection has its own identifier: CHR.0.26.38.4 for Chrome, Brave and Edge, FOX.0.26.38.4 for Firefox. The browser also displays the technical package version. Update existing unpacked test installations in the same folder.

NOW IN YOUR BROWSER TOO

One link.
Your whole IconCU.

Website chats, Second Layer and personal conversations – with the same interface and account as the Windows app.

Our community website is already pinned at the top. Add more web addresses yourself. To connect open browser tabs, use the optional IconCU extension CHR.0.26.38.4 / FOX.0.26.38.4.

Start directly in your browser. Unsaved input is protected during automatic updates. The desktop app adds Windows conveniences such as the taskbar and startup options.

YOUR DEVICE. YOUR ICONCU.

On your PC. On your phone. Together.

The Windows app requires Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit (x64). Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 32-bit systems are not supported. We recommend Windows 11 for a current, maintained system.

In a mobile browser, the Web App starts without installation. Use the bottom navigation to switch between websites, Second Layer, web chat, personal chats and menu. Our website is already included; add more addresses under Websites. Simply entering google.de is enough, for example. Sign in with your usual account to publish Second Layer posts and use account-based chats. Private guest messages are also available without an account.

An ordinary website cannot read other browser tabs. On phones, you therefore start with manually entered addresses. A dedicated Safari extension for iPhone and an adapted Firefox extension for Android are possible future additions.

WIN, WEB, SITE, CHR and FOX identify the Windows app, Web App, website and browser plugins. All include the year. Phones run the same WEB version with an adapted layout; accounts, posts and chats use the same server.

Windows is blocking installation?

While the publisher signature is still pending, Windows may warn about or block our test file. A SmartScreen warning may offer “Run anyway” under “More info”. Check the filename, source and published SHA-256 checksum first.

Smart App Control, S mode and managed devices may still prevent installation. IconCU does not turn off Windows security features and cannot guarantee installation. The web app works without installation.

Update your plugin in fewer steps

If your unpacked plugin was loaded from the folder managed by the PC app, the PC app updates those files. Then choose “Update” in the plugin: it checks the available files and reloads itself. Your settings are preserved.

If you chose your own folder, replace the files once in that same folder. You can then click “Files replaced? Reload plugin” directly in the plugin. A browser extension cannot overwrite its own program files. With a store installation, the browser handles regular approved updates. An unpacked test copy remains a separate installation method.

App will not start after an update?

First close all IconCU windows, including the Control Room. Then quit IconCU using its icon in the Windows taskbar notification area. Reinstall the current released Windows version from our official download page.

From Windows version 0.61.0, the Start menu includes “IconCU-Profil reparieren” (repair IconCU profile). The same assistant opens automatically when a profile conflict is detected. Older installations may not have this entry yet.
